From the time we were married, my husband and I have always sat down to dinner together. I like to consider myself a proficient cook and one that knows how to cook when it comes to meal preparation. My husband is also a very good cook and we usually don't decide until around dinner time what to make. This leaves us little time to actually cook something good which means we eat alot of processed food that is quick and easy to prepare. If you are like us, then this next review is going to help you (and us) out with this dilemma.
"Let's Cook Tonight" is a cookbook and instruction manual for those of us who never can seem to find enough time to prepare a full course, healthy dinner. The name of this book says it all...yes, you can cook and you can have a full meal for dinner TONIGHT!
As America’s Cooking Cheerleader, Gigi is creating a movement of men and women who are cooking for their families to improve their health, create quality family time, and save money. Let’s Cook Tonight will give you the guidance you need to start making and sharing healthy, great tasting meals for yourself, your friends and your family.
"Let's Cook Tonight" comes in a ring bound binder, which helps it stay open on your counter while you cook. I don't know about you, but I don't like to have to set salt and pepper shakers on my cookbooks to keep them open. It makes it so much easier when you have a book that stays open on its own.
"Let's Cook Tonight" comes with a red dry erase marker and clear, plastic page protectors to check off your progress while you are working through a recipe. The recipes are easy to understand and use very simple cooking terms. Sometimes, I see a word that makes no sense...but Gigi explains everything perfectly.
Another great aspect about "Let's Cook Tonight" is that it gives you complete meal plans. So, you will have a main dish and several sides. All the recipes are made of foods that fit great together so you don't have to wonder if you are getting a good combination of foods that taste good together.
Along with each recipe, there is a shopping list. You can just pop out the page, take it with you to the store and pick up what you will need. One thing that I was wondering about with this book is if I could use substitutions. The answer to that is no. Each recipe has been put to the ultimate substitute test and has been "tweaked" to use few ingredients, while still having full flavor. So, if the recipe calls for whole milk, use whole milk as other ingredients have been eliminated and you are still getting the flavor.
"Let's Cook Tonight" leaves the guess work out of timing your meal as well. In the back of the book are tabs...each recipe is categorized into time slots. So, if you only have 30 minutes to prepare a full meal, then you would turn to that tabbed section of the book. There are plenty of easy recipes that will ensure you get your dinner to the table in a timely fashion. Of course, if you want to prepare something that takes longer, you will need to look in the tabbed sections for those recipes.

This wonderful cookbook is authored by Gigi Centaro, America's Cooking Cheerleader. Here is more about her and her goal with "Let's Cook Tonight"
In Let’s Cook Tonight, Gigi Centaro teaches you that the health, family, and financial benefits provided by a good, home-cooked meal far outweigh the time and effort involved. Gigi has streamlined the entire process of planning, shopping for, and cooking a complete meal. She teaches you how to find the time to cook, and how to make delicious, nutritious dinners using the least amount of thought, work, and time.
I think that getting both men and women involved in the dietary aspect of the family is wonderful. This book very clearly shows you HOW to do it.
Another great aspect about "Let's Cook Tonight" is that it gives you complete meal plans. So, you will have a main dish and several sides. All the recipes are made of foods that fit great together so you don't have to wonder if you are getting a good combination of foods that taste good together.

Also in this book are recipes that have been tested to be freezer worthy. So, you can cook a larger portion and freeze some of it for a later meal. These recipes will say "Freezer Take-out" next to them. I don't have freezer room for hardly anything so I don't need to worry about freezing ahead. Someday though, if I ever get a freezer I will be all set! This is a wonderful feature of "Let's Cook Tonight".
****
So, in my opinion..."Let's Cook Tonight" really assists those of us who are trying to get our dining habits and lives back on track. It takes the guess work out of meal preparation, timing, shopping and food pairing. The recipes are easy to read and comprehend and the terms are fool proof! It is the perfect cookbook for anyone who doesn't like to cook or doesn't have time to cook. This recipe book is now a part of my collection and should be in every woman's kitchen!
