Sweet Alexis Bakery Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

Food. We get along very nicely. Unfortunately for alot of people out there today there are hidden allergens in just about everything food-related. We have been fortunate enough to have escaped the food allergy monster, but I know so many people who have to deal with this on a regular basis. As a blogger with a large readership, I really try to cater to different needs in what I write about. Being constantly on the look-out for allergy friendly companies is something that I try to do and today, I have a wonderful company to introduce to you. Pay attention...they might be what you have been craving for a long time! :)
Sweet Alexis Bakery is a unique company that is found in California. This bakery focuses on trying to provide consumers with egg, dairy, peanut and tree nut-free baked goods...which is amazingly wonderful for those of you who struggle trying to find yummy goodies to satisfy your sweet tooth...without throwing you into an adverse allergic reaction.
The story about how Sweet Alexis Bakery came to be is long and very detailed. I love how it shows one mother's struggle to care for and nurture her child in a world full of allergens. Michele Fellows (the mother) named this bakery after her daughter Alexis. Here is a bit more of their story...


Over 12 million people have life threatening food allergies in the United States. In the past 5 years children with peanut allergies have doubled. There is no known cause. There is no known cure. Life threatening food allergies are now considered an epidemic and yet there is still little understanding.
My daughter, Alexis, has multiple “life threatening” food allergies to the following: All dairy products and derivatives of dairy, eggs, shellfish, all nuts, including tree nuts and peanuts, mustard and cherries.
She also has environmental allergies and is asthmatic. She is so severe that three separate doctors have refused to perform skin tests on her for fear that she would anaphylax (a life-threatening, immediate allergic reaction to something ingested or injected). If untreated, it results in shock, respiratory and cardiac failure, and death.
When Alexis was in preschool, the teachers gave the class candy treats at Easter time and Alexis was given a pencil. I was devastated that she was singled out like this. My husband suggested that I turn that situation into a positive. So, I created “Sweet Alexis Bakery” egg free, dairy free, tree nut and peanut free treats. These are fresh products that are tasty enough to be enjoyed by the whole family. I bring these baked goods to social gatherings and birthday parties so Alexis can enjoy treats along with her friends.
My goal is to increase awareness and understanding of children with food allergies. My dream is that families affected by life threatening allergies can shop with ease and even take our kids out for a muffin or treat at a local shop or restaurant.
Eventually, I envision the “Alexis Friendly” symbol on all products that are egg free, dairy free, and nut free so shopping and life in general can be made easier for families like ours. Day by day, I am turning something devastating into a positive and that in itself feels really sweet.
There is more to this story and you can read it in it's entirety HERE. I don't think I have ever read such an emotional and heart-tugging story related to food allergies before. WOW. Personally, I cannot imagine what I would do if I was put into Michele's position. It would be very difficult for me to send my child anywhere unless I was there guarding their every step! They certainly have come a long way and deserve a ton of praise for making lemonade out of the lemons they have been dished out.
So, for this review I was sent a lovely box of baked goods to try. When I first heard that they were free of just about every ingredient I consider to be yummy...I thought for sure I would be eating cardboard and packing peanuts. Boy...was I ever WRONG!!!

In this package I received Banana Bread, Zucchini Bread, Shortbread Cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatmeal Cookies and Wheatless Chocolate Chip Cookies (which are so new they are not yet found on the website!!).
The first items that we tried were the breads. I have a special place in my heart for Zucchini Bread so that was my first taste. I was really shocked at how moist and soft this bread was. If I didn't know that it came from a allergy friendly bakery, I would not have known the difference...seriously. It was AMAZING! You can actually see the zucchini in this bread too! The Banana Bread was reeeeeeeeeeally good too. :) My children both loved the breads and my son enjoyed it for breakfast several days in a row.
The cookies were chock full of goodies. The Wheatless Chocolate Chip Cookies were my personal favorite because they were soft. I love softer cookies and these were perfect!! The other cookies were really tasty as well and they really kept my son occupied! I gave him a Shortbread Cookie (crumbly and buttery!) after lunch one day and it took him quite a while to eat it completely. He (and my daughter) both ADORED the Chocolate Chip Cookies!!
The other thing that I really loved about Sweet Alexis Bakery's products is the fact that they are really LOADED with chocolate chips, oatmeal, etc. They were not so tiny or artificial that you could not see them. Oh no...they were really amazing. I did really feel like I was eating home made products.
Sweet Alexis Bakery is currently re-vamping the packaging on their products to make them all Zip-Loc style instead of the coffee-bag style closures that they have now. Zip-Loc will ensure product freshness and longer shelf life too! YAY! But, mine stayed fresh for days even in the non-Zip-Loc bags.

All these and more products can be found on the Sweet Alexis Bakery website. There are also a few stores that carry this fabulous product...several stores have just opened in New York!! Really exciting. Check out their site for more locations.
So, in my opinion...Sweet Alexis Bakery has some incredible baked goods. I was surprised at the flavor, presentation, texture and ingredients of all the products that I received and was really happy that they didn't taste like I thought they would! LOL! I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who has children or someone in their family that suffers from food allergies. What an amazing company!!!
