Eating Healthier At My House

Recently, my husband came to me and said that he wanted to start eating better. I was thrilled to hear this because currently, he does NOT eat very healthy. If it is a veggie, he won't touch it. His breakfast usually consists of sweets...donuts, cookies, chocolate milk, etc. So you can imagine my surprise when he suggested to me that we start eating healthier. Now, his idea of doing this is eating more fruit. I can't say that it is totally a wonderful thing to eat fruit as you are still consuming sugar but at least it is better than a donut! So, the other day he went grocery shopping and came home with the following: 2 boxes of strawberries, at least 5 cans of crushed pineapple, 2 cans of peaches, bananas and V8 Splash.
As I unpacked the bags I wondered just what he was planning to do with all of this fruit. I knew he was going to eat it of course, but I was trying to follow his line of thinking. When I asked him about it he said that he wanted to start drinking fruit smoothies! Ahhh! Ok, so it all made sense now. I have always drank fruit smoothies and LOVE them. I even like to make green smoothies on occasion. Those are they types of smoothies in which you can mix both fruit and greens. They are REALLY good and my children love them.

So, that night I made him a fruit smoothie that he could take to work with him in the morning. Usually I use ice in my smoothies, but to keep his from getting watered down, I left out the ice. Here is what I did...

In a blender, add 1 banana, 1/2 can crushed pineapple, 1/2 can peaches, 6-8 strawberries (washed and stems cut off) and any other kind of fruit that you want to use. Sometimes I add blueberries and flax seed too. Then, add as much juice (I would love to try mangosteen juice sometime), water or milk that you want and blend thoroughly. That's it! The ice just adds a frostiness to the smoothie and makes it oh so good.
The finished smoothie is a perfect blend of fruit flavors and was very much enjoyed by all of us! My husband has a smoothie waiting for him for his breakfast tomorrow and he will LOVE it! So, that is what we are doing to eat healthier right now. How about you? What are some things that you do to change up the way you eat?

  1. I've cut back on frying. We eat a lot of lean meats and have increased our veggie and fruit intake.

Carmex Healing Lotion & Healing Cream Review

Because I am a member of the Carmex Blog Squad , I am informed of and privileged to bring you reviews of Carmex's newest products! This is something that I have been doing for awhile and have really grown to love the Carmex brand. The newest products that have been introduced by Carmex are lovely and will definitely impress you as they have me. Because I am a mom, I wash my hands frequently. After diaper changes, before cleaning wounds, bathroom breaks, preparing food...all this requires clean hands. Because I usually apply lotion while I am moving and going from one thing to the next, I do not like a greasy lotion. I HATE applying a cream and having to "dry" my hands for the next half hour. What a perfectly good waste of time that is. So, I was wondering what Carmex would offer me in way of fast and quickly absorbing lotion. Before I continue, here is a bit more about Carmex for those of you who are new to their brand... Carmex® lip balm was invented in 1...

Community Coffee Review

In my house, I am the only coffee drinker. This means that I can choose the type (caffeinated or decaf), flavor and strength of my coffee. I fell in love with coffee when I was in high school and have never looked back. To me, it is relaxing to sip on a cup in the morning and to enjoy a cup while visiting with friends. Holding onto a mug also gives me something to do with my hands instead of flapping them around. Ha ha! Well, we have just ended a wonderful holiday season and I am sure many of you enjoyed coffee in fun and delicious seasonal flavors. I also love how there are special liquid coffee creamers that take on a holiday feel as well...eggnog, hazelnut and peppermint to name a few. YUM! Well, just because the holidays are over, doesn't mean you cannot enjoy a taste of them now! I am sure many of you have heard of Community Coffee and their delicious variety of coffees. Well, I have known about them for some time now but have never tried their brand before. I was ...
