As you all may or may not know, I am currently in my first year of homeschooling. My daughter is in Pre-K right now and I cannot even begin to tell you what a wonderful privilege it is to be able to teach my own child. I am shocked at how quickly she is learning things and how well she retains the information. At first, homeschooling was difficult because Hannah is VERY smart but doesn't want you to think she is smart. So, she made things a bit challenging at first. If you are new to homeschooling (like me), or you are a veteran homeschooler then I have a wonderful website to tell you about today!

SchoolhouseTeachers.com (a division of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine) is an online resource for teachers that can aid in finding a great curriculum or help give your child "busywork". I have a two year old who wants to be involved in everything...especially when he sees his sister being taught fun things. So, right now trying to keep him busy and out of my hair while I try to teach Hannah is my challenge.
This was one reason I really loved this website...in their Read and Play Pre-K Activities section, they have tons of printable activity sheets for toddlers! I was really excited when I saw this because my son loves to color. I can literally give him several sheets to color and he will sit there for the entire duration of Hannah's schooling and just color quietly. This is the month of December, and so I could choose to print sheets of Christmas-themed coloring pages. I was also really happy to see that the Bible verses used were KJV...that is awesome!!
Today before Hannah began her schooling, I printed out several sheets and sat them down at the table. They were so excited to see that we had something new to do! Having these coloring pages was wonderful. Jacob and Hannah were able to stay occupied and I was able to get some things done while they colored.
When they were done, of course we had to hang the artwork on the fridge. Don't they look so thrilled to have fridge-worthy artwork? They could not wait for daddy to come home so they could show him their coloring pages. :) I love to see them so excited and having fun learning at the same time!
Because Hannah is just starting Pre-K, we are not quite ready for spelling yet. But, I was really happy to see the great spelling resources that SchoolhouseTeachers.com offers. I also like how they give you a structured schedule. The picture above shows a sheet that I printed out. Basically, this lesson will be teaching the child how to add an "s" to make a word plural. You can quiz the child on when to use an "s" and what it will do to a word.
Speaking of structure, I am not a very organized person and often need a regimented curriculum to stay on schedule. While perusing SchoolhouseTeachers.com I came across some wonderful checklists that can be downloaded and personalized for your individual needs. I love this!! This would really help me to stay organized and structured.

Subscribing to this wonderful website costs just $5.95 per month and your first month will only cost you $1.00! I would say it is definitely a good investment for any homeschooler.

As a new member of SchoolhouseTeachers.com, I am really looking forward to exploring the site more in the coming weeks and months. I am so new at homeschooling, I need all the help I can get and this will definitely give me some wonderful tools to make my job a bit easier. Check it out today!
