Ok, so I know that Christmas has gone by us already and we are facing the New Year. Wow...I have been SO busy with the holidays that I have completely taken a mini-vacation from blogging. Hubby has been on vacation from work all this week and we are just really enjoying being a family and taking time together. It has been so refreshing and restful after our busy holiday. Did you get what you wanted for Christmas or did you have to return gifts to get what you wanted? I pretty much did very well...I do not ask for much at all because I already have been blessed with so much. So, I have to ask. Do you have someone on your list who is/was extremely hard to buy for? I do. My dad. He buys what he wants throughout the year so when Christmas rolls around, he needs nothing. He is also really picky about what he gets so that makes things hard as well. This year, I got him the best gift of all and it truly out-shined all the rest.
Perplexus is exactly what it sounds like...perplexing! This toy is suitable for all ages and is probably one of the most challenging, yet fun puzzles around. Perplexus is a product of Plasmart, a Canadian based distributor of children's toys. Plasmart has been in the toy industry since 2003 and has been very successful; expanding internationally to over 5 continents and 60 countries. So, they are definitely well-known!

Before I continue, here is a bit more about about the Perplexus and how it got it's beginnings...


The concept behind PERPLEXUS was created by 3-D design teacher Michael McGinnis in the late 1970′s as a project for an art class. Michael envisioned turning his creation into a toy. He had no idea this vision would turn into a decades long odyssey to get the game to market.

After almost 20 years, Michael met the inventors at KID Group, one of the premier inventing houses in the toy industry. They collaborated on the design to make it more suitable for consumers. It was finally ready. The original product was marketed as Superplexus.

Through many twists and turns in the toy industry, Superplexus got tangled up in some changes and ended up being shelved just as it was getting started. But that isn’t the end of the story…

In 2008, a group of enthusiasts contacted KID Group about licensing Superplexus. Busy Life, LLC acquired the rights to Superplexus and launched PERPLEXUS in its current form.

So even though the process took awhile, it has been worth it! I am so glad that I came across Perplexus because it solved the most "difficult to buy for" person on my list this year.
For this review I was sent an original Perplexus to play with and check out. I was impressed. This LOOKS easy to do, but it actually is very challenging. I got through about half of it but had to stop because my children needed help with something. It is very addicting and difficult to put down once you have started.

The real test would be when my dad opened his Perplexus on Christmas day. Would he like it, or throw it in his pile of stuff to look at later? I was really curious as to how he would react. You see, if my dad REALLY likes something, presents pile up around him while he plays with his favorite present. Soooooo, as he opened our gift, I was paying very close attention.
I think it is safe to say that he liked it...alot. He played with it for a long time and thought that the small steel ball inside was supposed to come out. I showed him how it worked and then he was hooked. My brother's girlfriend was also very intrigued...
My daughter (who is 3) just thinks it is a really neat toy that makes noise when you shake it. :)  Her and daddy played with it for a little bit tonight and they had lots of fun with it. 

As you can see, once someone gets Perplexus in their hands, it is hard to carry on a conversation with them and they have a hard time putting it down. Once you start, you don't want to stop!! :) The Perplexus is a puzzle in which you have to guide a small steel ball through a maze. You have a starting point and a stopping point. The idea is to keep the ball on the tracks without having it fall out. It is NOT as easy as it looks!!!

Perplexus is available in many areas of the country, including Canada. It retails for about $25.00 and there are also different varieties from which you can choose. They also make a Rookie version for those of us who want to take it slow and take our time learning.

So, in my opinion...Perplexus is a wonderful toy! It is also a very intriguing puzzle that will hold the attention of  just about anyone. I love how my dad played and played with it...I think it was one of his favorite gifts and THAT is not an easy accomplishment for the gift giver in my family. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for that perfect birthday, Christmas or anytime gift. Your recipient won't be disappointed!!
