Dr. Jim & The Special Stethoscope Book Review & Giveaway

6:49 AM

***GIVEAWAY CLOSED***

My daughter get so excited when I get new books for her! She is a huge animal fan so books about animals are even more exciting. We have new baby chicks in our house...just got them on Saturday. So, she is learning how to be gentle and for a 2 1/2 year old...that is not easy. Having a kind heart is something that we want her to learn and I believe that this next book will help us teach her how to do just that.

"Dr. Jim & The Special Stethoscope" is a super cute book for children that shows how having an understanding heart towards our pets can make them happier and healthier!

"Dr. Jim & The Special Stethoscope" is the first in a new book series written by Scott Thomas Nicol. He is not a writer by trade, but rather a construction worker. He has quite a talent for writing! Here is a bit more about Scott...
Scott Thomas Nicol was born and raised in New Jersey. Although he doesn’t write for a living (he works in the construction industry), he has always loved writing. “I would relish writing assignments in school. Even in college, I took creative writing courses as electives.”

The ‘Dr. Jim’ series of books he is creating, starting with ‘Dr. Jim & the Special
Stethoscope’, has been something he considered doing for years. “I started fooling around with rhyming words and stanzas to tell this story. Finally, I got serious about it and created a cute concept about a young country veterinarian and this magical instrument he uses to figure out his patients’ ills. It became a great little story. And the subsequent stories are (and will be) as well. These could be a feature animated film in the making!”

Scott is married and has three beautiful children. “This whole story writing is, kind of, for them. I created these cute stories with them in mind."

This book is sooo darling! I am IN LOVE with the illustrations. There is so much character in each picture and each expression on the animal's face. The man responsible for these drawings is David Youngblood. He has a true love and passion for drawing and it shows in these pictures. I mean...look at this poor piggy! ACK! Can you feel his pain??? Ha Ha! I LOVE it. David studied Fine Art at both Louisburg College and East Carolina University. Then, due to his love for comics, continued to pursue his art career at The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Inc. He definitely has a wonderful talent that shines in this book!
"Dr. Jim & The Special Stethoscope" is a cute story about a young veterinarian who uses his "special" stethoscope to help diagnose and treat his animal patients. He reassures them that they are perfect just the way that they are and in turn...they leave him feeling happy and content.
What is also very nice about this book is the fact that it has a "Dr. Jim's Word Corner", which is like a small glossary of terms that are found in the book. So if you have a little reader, they can reference the back of the book if they do not know what a certain word means.

So, in my opinion..."Dr Jim & The Special Stethoscope" is an adorable book. Full of colorful and fun illustrations, it will please any child. I love the concept behind the story and really think that it is great to teach our children how to love their pets.

Scott has offered to give away an autographed copy of "Dr Jim & The Special Stethoscope" to one of you! This will make a little person VERY happy! Here are your entry options...
